Located on the top floor of a residential apartment in Noida, 1652 is an interior renovation designed for an architect-artist couple and their pets. The project reimagines the existing apartment as a light-filled, contemporary home where architecture is shaped by the movement of the sun and the rhythms of everyday life. The spatial planning follows the natural progression of daylight, allowing each space to transform in character from sunrise to sunset while fostering a seamless connection between living, working, and leisure.

The renovation adopts a philosophy of revealing rather than concealing. Layers of plaster were removed to expose the original brick masonry, while existing concrete columns were retained in their raw form, celebrating the building's inherent structure and history. These honest architectural elements are complemented by carefully crafted timber insertions, creating a balanced dialogue between rugged textures and refined craftsmanship. The open-plan layout enhances visual continuity, encourages interaction, and allows natural light and cross ventilation to flow freely throughout the apartment.

Materiality plays a central role in defining the home's identity. A restrained palette of exposed brick, raw concrete, natural wood, lime plaster, handcrafted metal details, and earthy flooring creates interiors that are warm, tactile, and timeless. Custom-designed furniture, integrated storage, recessed display niches, and a suspended wooden swing become integral architectural elements rather than standalone objects, enriching the daily experience of the home.

Rather than relying on decorative finishes, 1652 celebrates authenticity, adaptive reuse, and the beauty of ageing materials. Every intervention is intentional, preserving the character of the existing apartment while enhancing its functionality and environmental performance.
